What keeps me busy outside work.

Sport

Training is my counterweight to a job that largely happens sitting down. I go to the gym two or three times a week to stay physically fit. Add a trip to the sauna afterwards and I feel like a new person :-)

I also follow football. Being from the Palatinate, my club is naturally 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

Networking

Networks are not just my job but also a hobby. In my own lab I rebuild topologies that interest me and take my time watching how protocols actually behave — no change window, no time pressure.

Usually that means EVE-NG: a handful of virtual routers, a scenario that is on my mind, and the freedom to keep breaking it until I understand why it breaks. Much of it helps later on the job — the rest is simply interesting.

Reading

I enjoy books about technology, but philosophy and crime fiction can captivate me just as much.
